There is no stage in a person's life that we can truly say that there is nothing more we can learn about our faith. That is why it is even more important that Christian education is provided for adults. Sunday school shouldn't really be for children. Children are meant to be taught the faith by parents and studies show that importance is even greater now. Faith5 and Faith Inkubators have some great tools that point to understand the value of family and ministry. Another organization is ThinkOrange which has also developed some great tools to help churches and Christian families in developing a lasting, transferable faith to the next generation.
As pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, one of my personal goals is to develop the ministry to be intentionally cross-generational. This can not and will not happen accidentally, nor will it occur quickly. One aspect of developing this is through more Adult Christian education that will help to open greater interaction with our children and youth.
Sunday School Most every Sunday following a little fellowship period there will be Sunday School classes held for adults within the Fellowship Hall. These studies will cover various topics related to our faith life together.
Pre-Marital Classes Prior to any wedding at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to be presided over by a pastor of the congregation there will be Pre-Marital Classes in preparation for the wedding of four to six sessions, depending on the need. These are arranged with the pastor by the couple.
Parenting Parents need support and as families grow within our congregation the best support can be found within small groups.
Discipleship The Alpha Course is a part of this process to assist those that are either unchurched or have walked away from the Christian faith to gain a new perspective through faith exploration.
Christ Over Coffee Most Wednesdays at 2:00 pm you can meet pastor at Perk Up Coffee House located within the Cherry Tree Plaza next to Goody's on Old National Highway. This a time for study and discussion on the Bible and the Christian faith.
Marriage Care Marriage Care is vital for the support of families and as interest builds classes will be offered for this in the future in a group, but if you have personal issues within your marriage at this time that the pastor can offer assistance, please call the pastor at any time.
Grief Loss is an inevitable part of life and it is important for those that have just lost a loved one to know they are not alone. As the need arises materials are available for groups. At this time, the pastor is available to meet one on one.
Diaconal Ministry Training The Diaconate has held a special place in ministry throughout Church history. Established by the Apostles as we read within Acts 6, they were and continue to be valuable in the service of the Church in Word and Service. A Deacon or Deaconess has a unique calling to serve and assist the pastor(s) of a congregation and is equipped to use his or her gifts for the benefit of the faith. The process is three years of study and preparation and those that feel called to continue will be consecrated as Deacon or Deaconess of the congregation. If interested please fill this out.
